Re: pickup suggestions for a Filmore MK II
does anyone have a clue who made the pups that are in the guitar??
I was under the impression that Dana Mo may have.
I havent tried them with the band
heres a link to some of our songs so you get an idea what the guitars sound like in the band

Re: pickup suggestions for a Filmore MK II
Hey Bro, that's the whole point I was trying to make. Get what YOU need, not whatever we or anybody wants to sell you. I have referred people to Curtis Novak, Ed Elliot, Front Porch, and Bob Shade when they had something we didn't offer. If you want an M-3 pickup then I can help you. Either way, I say try the ceramic 8 magnets.
The best way to get a cross between the big humbuckers you mentioned, and a Mosrite pickup, is to go for a high-output single coil and ceramic mags. I think a 15K single is gonna get a little muddy. I'd keep it a 12K single-coil with ceramics.

How dare you presume to inject, using reproducible facts and rational thought, an on-topic discussion into a thread that had degenerated from sarcasm, personal invective, and hand-waving arguments?

Well, that particular guitar was made in the Tokai factory so I would assume the stock pickups are Gotoh or something similar.

Re: pickup suggestions for a Filmore MK II
Adam, is the Tokai company today the same or is the quality of the guitars they produce the same as the Tokai output from the early 1980s? I have a 1983 Tokai Stratocaster clone that is a very high-quality instrument. It has, based upon the research of folks on the Tokai Registry forum, Dimarzio pickups.

Re: pickup suggestions for a Filmore MK II
Tokai is the same Tokai as way back when and they've always produced quality instruments, although relatively speaking the '80s were their heyday and probably the high point in their output quality. Fillmore certainly advertised the Johnny Ramone model as having a Dimarzio single coil, but I don't remember them noting this fact on their MKII which makes me think it is something more generic.
