Hi, I just registered and got the invite email.
I am John Beal, resident of LA for these past couple years, originally from SF Bay Area. I am a priest of the Orthodox Church in America, Bulgarian Diocese of Toledo (I know you've never heard of it). I'm married and am a father. I'm a big music buff and used to run an online store out of Oakland, CA, BealtownMusic.com, specializing in vintage and boutique amps and guitars. I never came across any Mosrites though.
ABout 15 yrs. ago, when I was in seminary, I visited Backporch Music in Bakersfield and saw their wall of Mosrites. I should have bough a couple then, but I was always looking for 'bargains' and $1000 was more than I wanted to spend. Now I see how much these great guitars have appreciated and cringe at my skinflitiness. Hopefully I can learn more about these great American guitars here, and hook up with musicians in So Cal who play them.
I have developed a deep love of vintage American guitar instrumental music, probably starting from my appreciation of The Cramps, then going into their musical antecedents and descendants. I always though of The Cramps as fun and not particularly unwholesome. probably owing to their obvious intelligence. Much of what passes as mainstream is SO much darker, meaner and derogatory. The faux-sleaze of The Cramps and their ilk should not be confused with real depravity – it remains humorous.
Instrumental music which focuses on the sound of guitars tickles an itch that cannot be described in words.

Welcome Bealtown! I remember visiting your store a while back. Although I didn't visit Oakland too much, I did go to Berkeley/Oakland to visit the various CCR sights in the area. Glad to see you found the forum.

Welcome! I remember seeing the Cramps back in the day, they opened for the Talking Heads.

If we knew back then how much certain guitars would appreciate in value, they would be worthless today!

Nice to have you here, JB. Yes, rock guitar instrumentals tickle an itch indeed! I like to think of 'em in terms of 'how much fun can you have with a guitar?' What part of So Cal are you in? There's lots of players around here. -Marty
