Hey guys, I'm brand new here. Thanks for having me on board. I've been collecting Mosrites since 1991. I have a '71 Mark I six string, a '71 Mark I bass, a '67 Celebrity XII, a '72 Stereo 350, and one sort of mystery model. That's what brought me here.
It looks like a Bluesbender/Brass Rail type body shape but not as fancy, like a student model version of those. Headstock says "The New Mosrite" and the year is hand-engraved on the underside of the saddle. It's strung up right now but I'm pretty sure it reads 1978, possibly '77. (Sorry I can't remember which, I haven't looked in a long time). The most interesting thing is the serial number "14LOU", which I assume means "One For Lou". I don't know if its ever going to be possible to find out who this guitar was made for but I figured I'd try here. It's been a mystery to me for years!
Any tips on what this thing is would be great.
Thanks for reading!
Kevin

Yep! That's the one. Unfortunately, someone along the way (poorly) spray-painted the body blue. Maybe the mysterious Lou did this...I saw the original black underneath the pickguard so I sanded the blue off and repainted it black. I'm not great with that stuff, though. I hope to have it professionally refinished one day.

How many of these were made? This is the fifth one I've heard of. I've seen photos of one that was originally just not finished way back when and was then finished to Sunburst, I know of two in Black and one that was in a light color that may need a refinish. I currently have a list of five of these counting this blue one.

Well, mine was certainly black to begin with. Whoever spray painted it blue (unfortunately) sanded the original finish off before doing so. When I took the mushroom-shaped pickguard off, the original black was still there underneath. I have pictures but don't know how to post them here.

halfblank - would love to see some photos. You need to upload them to a photo hosting service like Flickr or Photobucket and then each photo has a website address of it's own. You then put that address between 'image' tags like these and it'll display on here. Or one of us can do it for you...
