Mosrite Mark II...some questions

I just picked up this guitar and am really enjoying playing it.






The serial number (located on the 22nd fret) is 3966. Can anyone tell me more about it? Like the approximate year it was made, etc. Thank you!

it seems that it is a guitar that Zamn Inc sold years ago. I have a white one (5008), too. Some says that it was made by Kurokumo. Pretty nice guitars Made in Japan

Phil - Thanks for the information. I just bought it used @ Guitar Center in Hollywood, California. They couldn't tell me really anything about it.
I looked up Kurokumo, and it seems that they still sell many styles of Mosrite Guitars on their website.
So is my guitar considered a Mosrite? Or is it a counterfeit?
Anyone that can tell me more...it would be appreciated.

Your guitar would be considered a "modern Mosrite". Currently, the Fillmore company owns the Mosrite name in Japan and so the guitars they build are legally Mosrites, but in the general vernacular, any high quality Japanese guitar with the Mosrite logo is considered a "real" modern Mosrite.

Mel - Thank you for your insight. I apologize for not posting this thread in the correct forum (I'm such a noob). I am sort of disappointed that it isn't a true Mosrite, but I am really enjoying playing it. The tone is excellent.
If anyone has a guess on an approximate year, let me know! I also would be interested in finding a pickup selector knob as it is missing on my guitar.

Mmmm, it's a tough one.

My first thought is that it's a Fillmore Mosrite because of the serial number and tortoise shell scratch plate, but the MIJ Fillmores have 'of Classics' on the headstock, so with the 'of California' there, it might be one sold or assembled in the US?

My understanding, and I am happy to be corrected on this, is that Kurokumo do not have serial numbers on their fretboards but do have 'of California' on the headstock. But Kurokumo owners will be able to confirm this.

It's a sweet guitar though, lets be honest.

i think before fillmore had the "of classics" decal on their headstock it said "of california" like the originals, but dont quote me on that.

My Kurokumo "Super Excellent" Mosrite ("of California") has a serial number punched in at the 22nd fret. Mine's from +/- 2007, in the period (after 2000?) Kurokumo stopped using The Ventures logo. I can't vouch for other Kurokumo models/-years, though
